History

The calendar marked April 15, 1954. Sao Bernardo, at the time, had a provincial atmosphere, but the city industrialization process had begun. It gained momentum with the construction of the Via Anchieta Road and installation of large multinational automobile industries, such as Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, Ford and Scania. Within this climate of progress, a group of Spiritists met with the intention of founding a spiritual center, which would be the first of the city to serve the growing population.

In a meeting at the Rua Di Pinedo, 30 the name for the new spiritual center was chosen among few others, Emmanuel. Regarding to the Statute, it was decided that it would adopted the model provided by the Brazilian Spiritist Federation.

The first elected board was constituted as follows: President: Manuel Romero; Vice president: Helena Coppini; First Secretary: Rolando Coppini; Second Secretary: Mário Camargo; First-treasurer: Nilton Cavalcante; Second-treasurer: Manoel Guarini. The board counted with the support of several other employees also attended to the inaugural meeting.

Among the pioneers of the Emmanuel Spiritist Center, beyond the initial directors, one can highlight: Maria Romero, Ismael Sgrignolli, Alberto D'Angelli, Milton Tenório Cavalcante, Andrés Garcia Guerreiro, José Correia Gomes, Alvaro Moreira, Expedito Teófilo da Silva among others, many of which are disembodied.

Emmanuel Spiritist Center since its foundation is devoted to the practice of Spiritism, in accordance with the teachings of Allan Kardec, as well as the promotion of spiritual, moral and material charity. Within those over 50 years of operation, movements had emerged in the CEE that helped on the foundation of many works of evangelization and social doctrine, as the Emmanuel Children's Home and Bezerra de Menezes Psychiatric Hospital, among other institutions.

Thanking God and the beloved spiritual mentors for the CEE foundation and maintenance, we ask that inspiration of faith, hope and love are extended to all volunteers and goers of this traditional Christian nook.
